SMEs in Southern Africa are energy intensive, employing inefficient and obsolete technologies due to the lack of technical capacities and resources to undertake a profound analysis of what could be achieved at enterprise level to reduce energy consumption.

SMEs in seven countries of the region have benefitted from the Energy Efficiency Management Programme (EEMP), the focus of which is to enhance policy and institutional support, provide energy efficiency services for the development of energy savings action plans and technical capacities.
