Formulation and implementation of Private Sector Development Programmes (PSDPs)

The role of the private sector in Southern Africa is crucial, particularly in wealth creation, employment generation and, consequently, poverty alleviation.

CDE has launched a series of initiatives regarding the formulation of Private Sector Development Programmes (PSDPs) between 2010 and 2013 in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

The PSDP Botswana started its implementation in March 2013, while the formulation of Zimbabwe’s Trade and Private Sector Development Programme (TPSDP) has just been finalised. This programme is currently being appraised by the European Commission for possible financing while Lesotho and Swaziland PSDPs are still under formulation with expected funding from their respective governments.
